We were fortunate enough to get hold of several different Penguin Fingers products in order to review what the brand is able to offer grapplers. The company specialises in cold-compresses and cooling gels that help with both recovery and rehabilitation of minor injuries. We were able to try out their cooling gel, wrist cold-compresses, finger and toe cold-compresses, and several different cold compression sleeves designed for specific large joints.
Penguin Fingers Product Review
It was founded by a BJJ black belt who was fed up with experiencing the same aches and pains that many competitors and instructors grow accustomed to over their years of training. It’s a common problem among grapplers in any discipline, where they feel amazing during a training session but once it’s over they pay the price. Experiencing constant soreness and difficulty using both small and large joints can cause genuine issues in everyday life and a product that helps minimise that can be a godsend if done right.
Penguin Fingers Wrist, Toe, And Finger Cold Compresses
The finger and toe cold-compresses that Penguin Fingers offer are genuinely a game-changer. Anybody who has practiced Jiu-Jitsu in the gi for more than a few months has experienced the feeling of soreness in their finger joints that is at best uncomfortable, and at worst painful to deal with. They only need an hour in the freezer before use, so it’s easy to plan ahead and put them in before training starts in order to return home and use them if needed. Out of all of the Penguin Fingers products that we were able to review, these stood out as the ones that will undoubtedly get the most use for BJJ athletes. Following in at a close second are the wrist cold-compresses that function exactly the same way, but are slightly larger to accommodate the larger joint.
Penguin Fingers Cold Compress Sleeves For Large Joints
These cold compression sleeves are designed for major joints instead, and Penguin Fingers offers different ones designed for specific joints like the knee or elbow. These take the idea of knee and elbow supports and elevate that to a whole new level. Now rather than just supporting the joint in general and attempting to apply icepacks to difficult areas, grapplers can actually use cooling therapy targeted directly at the joint from all sides. These are genuinely fantastic, as they make the process of dealing with the kinds of injuries that are pretty common in BJJ significantly easier. Not just that, but there’s also a fantastic cold compression sleeve that fits around the head in order to help battle against migraines.
Penguin Fingers Cooling Gel
We were also able to review the Penguin Fingers cooling gel, and it is a must-have for any grapplers who have busy training schedules. No doubt any athlete with a consistently heavy training load has experimented with different cooling or warming gels in order to assist muscle recovery, and the range in effectiveness can be quite broad. Fortunately, Penguin Fingers offers an effective analgesic that comes in either a hemp seed or CBD form, and in either a tub or in a roll-on applicator. Personally, I’d recommend the roll-on applicator as it ensures that you won’t use more than you need while avoiding lathering your hands unnecessarily. It’s a fast-acting gel and I’ve found it works best at night after a hard training session, so that any soreness and fatigue is gone or at least significantly reduced by morning.
Conclusion
Penguin Fingers is a great brand run by a BJJ black belt that offers products to make the lives of other grapplers infinitely easier. The finger and toe cold-compress is going to be invaluable for anyone training in the gi, and the wrist cold-compress will definitely come in handy when you get hit with a quick wristlock or suffer an impact when posting. The cooling gel is another product you’ll likely get good use out of it on an almost daily basis, and it can definitely help you make it to training sessions multiple days in a row. The knee and elbow cold-compress sleeves might not get as much use on a daily basis, but when you do suffer a hyper-extension to the joint then you’ll quickly realise the value of them as you recover.
All in all, it’s well worth getting any of the Penguin Fingers products in the review above. Adjust according to your own needs of course, but each of their products can help speed up recovery from minor injuries.
