There was a time when MMA was reserved exclusively for men and there was no such thing as women’s classes or female competitors. In the decades since the sport first gained mainstream acceptance, women in MMA have come along leaps and bounds and the opportunities available to them have continued to grow. Every major MMA promotion now has women’s divisions as standard, including the UFC, and many of the best competitors on the planet are women. As the sport continues to grow, women are able to get even more opportunities to compete on bigger stages than ever before and there are almost as many female competitors as male.
