Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin is about to make her promotional debut for ONE Championship at ONE Fight Night 12 on July 14th, 2023. Although Alequin is one of the top female competitors around, she has a tough challenge to overcome as she’ll be facing Tammi Musumeci at the event. It’ll undoubtedly be a difficult matchup and it’s practically guaranteed to produce plenty of excitement too. The two women have actually met on the mats before, having two matches at the WNO Championships event where Musumeci won a pair of decisions over Alequin.
Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin recently sat down with ONE Championship to discuss her debut, and she’s been doing some research to go with her previous experience:
“I saw her last month with Bianca (Basilio) and she wanted to be on bottom, but I’m prepared for her to stand with me and wrestle with me, as well.”
The match she’s referring to took place at ONE Fight Night 8 where Musumeci won a decision in a close battle. Alequin knows that it’s wise to prepare for all eventualities regardless though:
“I’m expecting the unexpected. If she wants to give me her leg and go to the ground, we’re going to dance, we’re going to tussle. But if she wants to wrestle with me, I’m going to be prepared for that as well.”
The match will be a challenge on more than one level, not just because Tammi Musumeci is a difficult opponent. The other thing to consider is that there’s always added pressure when a competitor makes their debut, she thinks the fans will be impressed by the result though:
“I’m just excited to go out there and finally be able to showcase my skills to (ONE’s fans) because I know once they meet me, once they see me perform, they’re going to be like: “What were we thinking holding off on this girl?” I’m excited to perform for the whole crowd over there.”
It might have taken Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin a little while to make her ONE Championship debut, but she plans on picking up the speed as soon as possible too:
“I can’t wait for this opportunity to showcase (my skills) because like I said, I’m not an MMA fighter. So, I don’t need two months in between. I don’t need 30 days. If you could slap me on every two weeks, it would be ideal. I would like to stay as active as possible and fight as many times, compete as many times for ONE as I can.”
