Members of the Gracie family have put together a football team called Gracie FC that will compete in an upcoming 7 v 7 tournament, with a grand prize of a million dollars available for the winners. The event has been created by The Soccer Tournament (TST) and is set to take place from June 1st to the 4th, 2023 in Cary, North Carolina. It will see thirty-two teams battling it out to take home the grand prize, with several others outside of Gracie FC already confirmed.
The tournament will also include teams representing popular football teams like Wrexham AFC and the US Women’s team, alongside many others. The full lineups for each of the teams competing have yet to be confirmed but Gracie FC will apparently be a fully Brazilian football team with both fighters and experts included. Although the full lineup is yet to come, the first member of the team has been announced as MMA and professional grappling veteran Gregor Gracie.
Gregor Gracie is a solid choice for the football team that his family has put together, as he’s a medallist in both the ADCC and IBJJF no gi world championships with a lengthy professional MMA career. Although he hasn’t competed at the very highest levels of the sport in a while, he has still stayed an active competitor on the masters circuit. In 2020 Gregor Gracie actually won the absolute division in the IBJJF masters world championship, defeating Rafael Lovato Jr in the final. He’s certainly still a fantastic athlete and he should have no trouble keeping up with the opposing teams when he takes to the pitch as part of Gracie FC.
