Urijah Faber has just been booked to compete against Elias Anderson, the reigning Combat Jiu Jitsu Bantamweight world champion, in the main event superfight of the upcoming CJJ Worlds Team Duel event on December 18th. The event represents a new venture for Eddie Bravo’s promotion, as it will feature four teams of elite grapplers battling it out together instead of the more traditional tournament format that they’ve normally used. Representatives from B-Team Jiu-Jitsu, 10th Planet, Team Alpha Male, and Combat Jiu Jitsu Mexico will all be meeting in Cancun, Mexico to fight for the grand prize of $50,000 on offer for the winners.
Elias Anderson has been dominant under CJJ rules recently, ever since he won the promotion’s Bantamweight title in a great tournament performance back in 2021. Urijah Faber on the other hand is a legend in MMA as one of the biggest fan-favourites in UFC history and has turned to grappling since retiring from the sport. He’s been a regular on the professional grappling superfight circuit and even competed in wrestling at the US Open alongside Clay Guida as well.
The match between Urijah Faber and Elias Anderson will be one of several CJJ superfights scheduled for the Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds Team Duel and it’s a fight that’s been a long time coming. The pair were originally scheduled to compete against one another a little under a year earlier at a different Combat Jiu Jitsu event, but Faber was forced to withdraw from the event on short notice. In the end, Faber was replaced by Erik Goyito Perez and Anderson ended up submitting him with an armbar in regulation time.
