Craig Jones has been forced out of his match against Lucas ‘Hulk’ Barbosa that was due to serve as the main event for the upcoming Road to ADCC event, thanks to an injury he has suffered at the last minute. It appears that Jones has broken a bone in his right hand, and although the exact cause of the injury is unknown, it’s seems incredibly likely that it was caused in his training for the match itself. The news was announced by event’s co-promoters, FloGrappling, in a post to their official Instagram account where they also shared a photo of the X-ray showing the broken bone as well.
It remains to be seen whether Barbosa will be remaining on the card, although no doubt both he and the promotion would prefer it that way as Road to ADCC represents one of the biggest grappling events that has been put together this year. The lineup for the event is stacked from start to finish and although losing both men wouldn’t put much of a dent in the popularity of it, clearly the plan was to make this event as big as possible.
While news of the injury will no doubt come as a blow to both the organizers and fans, both can rest assured that the event will still be a phenomenal one. With several IBJJF and ADCC world champions all competing on the same night, alongside a number of prodigies eager to make a big impression and earn an invite to the eventual ADCC World championships in 2022, expect action from start to finish at the Road to ADCC.
The full Road To ADCC event will available to watch live on 17th July on FloGrappling, click here to subscribe and watch.
