Two more competitors have just been announced for Polaris Squads 3, and they join the previously revealed team captains for the Team UK & Ireland v Team USA event. Joining Darragh O’Connail in representing Team UK & Ireland is Ross Nicholls, one of the most skilled competitors to come out of England who is no stranger to bright lights after making an attempt at the ADCC World Championships in 2019. Interestingly, his appearance at Polaris Squads 3 could see him get the chance for revenge as the man who knocked him out of that tournament is the captain of the opposing team, JT Torres.
Torres is being joined by Romulo Barral black belt Edwin Najmi, an IBJJF Pan-Ams Champion who also featured in ADCC 2019. He went out in the first round against Celso Vinicius, before also making an appearance in the absolute division, although again he lost in the opening round against Garry Tonon. Since then, Najmi has gone on to record some great victories on the professional grappling circuit, submitting former UFC Lightweight World Champion Benson Henderson with a Triangle Choke and defeating Johnny Tama by decision.
This latest announcement by the promotion means that the Polaris Squads 3 lineup is now a quarter-full with only six more competitors to be announced for each team. As Polaris Squads 3 will follow the same rules as their very first event, there will be two more athletes featuring in the under 75kg category for both teams and four under 95kg athletes too. Who would you like to see representing either the UK & Ireland or USA on July 17th?
The full play-by-play and live results for the first Polaris Squads can be found here, along with the full play-by-play and live results for the second Polaris Squads event here. Rest assured, we’ll be on hand again to provide the same for Polaris Squads 3.
