If everyone involved in making the Andre Galvao v Gordon Ryan superfight at ADCC 2022 sticks to their guns, it seems like the match isn’t going to get made at all. Despite the fact that Andre Galvao has fought in the headline superfight at four consecutive ADCC World Championship events and won every single one, his next defense against the reigning absolute division champion has never actually been guaranteed. Now it seems like all the recent back-and-forth between Gordon Ryan and virtually every member of ATOS might have been for nothing as ADCC head organizers aren’t willing to pay Galvao the incredible amount of $1,000,000 that he’s asking for.
As ADCC Head Organizer Mo Jassim revealed via an Instagram comment screenshotted in a post on Gordon Ryan’s official Instagram account, paying Galvao a million dollars is simply not possible as the entire revenue for a completely sold out event still wouldn’t even reach that figure. As both Jassim and Ryan have pointed out in the last few weeks, a purse of a million dollars would represent a whopping 25 times more than what Galvao has been paid for every single one of his superfight appearances to date.
Naturally, this has poured fuel onto the fire of the rivalry between Galvao and Ryan, with Ryan’s social media accounts working overtime to call out the six-time ADCC World Champion and attempt to push him into accepting the match at the standard pay-rate. Fans everywhere will no doubt be crossing their fingers in the hopes that the parties involved can come to an agreement, but this latest update makes it seem even less likely than before.
