Gordon Ryan v Andre Galvao is without a doubt the most hotly-anticipated match in BJJ history, at least since Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida faced off against Roger Gracie. This match has been in the works since the end of ADCC 2019 when Ryan won the absolute division and Galvao stretched his incredible run as superfight champion to four straight victories. Regardless of the buzz around it, there’s still been rumors flying around that Galvao may not be interested in competing at ADCC 2021, especially seeing as he’ll be nearly 40 years old at that point. ADCC head organizer Mo Jassim is acutely aware of the potential that the superfight won’t go ahead:

Mo Jassim – “I don’t wanna pressure Galvao. I’ve told him this could be possibly the biggest match of all time. The old school guy, still crushing it, against this special talent in Gordon, obviously it’s very intriguing.”

Sadly, we’re still not certain whether or not Gordon Ryan v Andre Galvao will be the superfight match at ADCC 2021. One thing we do know is that not only is Ryan more than happy to take on the biggest single fight of his career, but ADCC are also eager to put on the biggest match they possibly can:

Mo Jassim – “The one thing I don’t do is pressure people. I obviously spoke to Galvao and said ‘I’m not gonna lie, I wanna do this fight.’ But it’s in his hands, to be honest.”

Jassim mentioned that he spoke to Galvao about the potential match as recently as August. Considering that Galvao has been an elite competitor for virtually all of his life, it’s hard to imagine he turns down the chance to prove that he still has what it takes to beat the best grapplers on the planet almost a decade after he won both his weight-class and the absolute division at ADCC.

    That would b a hell of a match, I’m a
GORDAN RYAN fan all the way. I used to train at the RENZO GRACIE ACADEMY in Manhattan in the early to mid 2000,s and I used to take DANEHERS early morning JIU JITSU classes. The man is such a JIU JITSU GENIUS imo and lives the jiu jitsu lifestyle 24/7. I’d be hoping GORDAN wins against GALVAO but anything can happen when u have the skill set that GALVAO has. Id LOVE to see this match
