Third Coast Grappling have announced a superb idea with tons of potential for their sixth event, an eight-man grand prix with a total prize of $20,000 up for grabs. A prize of this kind of magnitude will no doubt attract some of the biggest names in the sport, as tournaments with even half as much prize money will usually see a couple of IBJJF World Champions competing. It’s certainly a big statement for the promotion to make in their very first event since leaving FloGrappling, and it shows an intent to deliver a solid show for the fans willing to pay for a PPV over at FITE TV.
The upcoming Grand Prix at Third Coast Grappling 6 is almost like the promotion meeting in the middle of two of their most successful events. They have done five numbered events up until now, usually stylized in the more traditional format for fight night events where they feature a preliminary card with lesser known grapplers followed by a series of superfights and topped by a headline matchup between two big-name competitors. In between these numbered events, Third Coast Grappling has also put on seven Kumite events which were more similar in style to this upcoming Grand Prix, where eight competitors meet in a tournament to compete for a major prize.
The promotion has announced that this tournament will be open to all styles and will not be exclusive to BJJ competitors, with the winner receiving $15,000 while the runner-up claims a smaller $5,000 prize. The names of the competitors will be released gradually in the coming weeks, with the full bracket due to be announced by March 1st, ahead of the event on April 3rd.
