UFC Fight Pass Invitational 5 took place on December 10th, 2023 and every grappler competing at the event did their best to get the results they wanted. They all left everything on the mat and there was plenty of action in each match, including a few big submission wins as well. The biggest storyline came in the main event, as Nicholas Meregali asked fans to choose how he would submit Felipe Pena prior to their match. Meregali didn’t disappoint either, as he won the match in impressive fashion and even finished it with a rear-naked choke just as he predicted.
The co-main event saw Nicky Rodriguez taking on ADCC absolute champion Yuri Simoes, and he executed a pretty flawless gameplan from start to finish. Rodriguez won the match on points, and by a pretty wide margin after Simoes was given a few penalties as well. His teammate Haisam Rida stepped in on short notice to take on Mason Fowler too, but he didn’t have the same success as Rodriguez. Fowler locked up a kimura to get the finish against Rida, while another B-Team member was beaten earlier in the night. Nicky Ryan had a very tough test against Jonnatas Gracie and he was never really able to get his game going, losing on points in the end.
Victor Hugo was facing a huge challenge in the form of Dan Manasoiu, one of the biggest competitors in the sport. It’s always difficult taking on such a physically-imposing athlete but Hugo dealt with it incredibly well, submitting Manasoiu with an Americana. There were only two women’s matches at the event, and the first featured UFC veteran Hannah Goldy against Amanda Mazza. Goldy really shone in this match and she locked up a really tight armbar to get the finish against Mazza. The next women’s match featured Luiza Monteiro and Elisabeth Clay, with Clay getting the win by heel hook.
