Garry Tonon has just been given the biggest opportunity of his MMA career to date as he will now challenge Thanh Le for the ONE FC Featherweight world championship on December 5th at ONE X. The opportunity has been incredibly hard-earned as Tonon has managed to maintain an undefeated professional MMA record across all six of his fights, all of which have been under the ONE FC banner. He finished all of his first five opponents and although he couldn’t get the finish against Koyomi Matsushima in his last fight, he dominated him from start to finish to earn a unanimous decision.
In between MMA fights, Tonon has remained competitive on the submission grappling scene and has competed on the occasional superfight card, going 3-0 against elite opposition since he earned a bronze medal at the ADCC World Championships in 2019. Even now that his career has hit new heights, it’s almost a certainty that Tonon will make another run at glory at ADCC 2022, most likely receiving one of the coveted invites to the event. In the lead up to his title fight with Thanh Le, Garry Tonon will continue training with his long-time coach and primary training partner, John Danaher and Gordon Ryan respectively.
The group will be making their move to Austin, Texas while Tonon prepares for the biggest fight of his life, and Le will continue fighting out of Metairie, Louisiana. As a brown belt in BJJ under Ryan Hall, Le will not be an easy match for Tonon on the ground and his Taekwondo black belt and experience as a striking coach on the Ultimate Fighter will give him a distinct edge in any striking exchanges during the title-fight.
