Two absolute legends of Women’s BJJ have just been booked to compete against one another for the next BJJ stars event, Claudia Do Val and Gabi Garcia. As with virtually any opponent she faces in both BJJ and MMA, Garcia will have the distinct weight advantage over Do Val. In her last competitive appearance at Fight 2 Win 142, Garcia competed against Kendall Reusing at 124kg and won by Americana over her outsized opponent. Do Val on the other hand, has not competed any higher than 79kg in the gi, where she has won the IBJJF World Championships for the last four years in a row, and the same accomplishment in the Master’s division on two occasions.
While Do Val’s accomplishments have been phenomenal over the last few years, Garcia’s weight advantage and her equally impressive ability will prove difficult to overcome. Garcia has defeated many women of a similar size as Do Val on her way to claiming four ADCC World Championship medals, and so few women have actually gotten the best of her that it’s something of a crowning achievement in the careers of the only five women who ever have.
The matchup between Gabi Garcia and Claudia Do Val will be one of six superfights booked for the BJJ Stars 4 card, which will build up to crowning a champion in their Middleweight Grand Prix. The news was announced via the BJJ Stars official Instagram, where they later revealed the first competitor for the Middleweight Grand Prix will be Isaque Bahiense.
The BJJ Stars IV: GP Middleweight tournament will take place on Saturday, November 14 at 6 pm EST.
