Fight 2 Win 153 has already had a number of big-name matchups announced for the event, despite their still being the small matter of the 152nd event not yet having taken place. The main event has been set as featuring one of the most accomplished BJJ competitors in the lighter weight-classes, Marcelo Garcia black belt Gianni Grippo. Despite only being 28, Grippo has already earned an impressive haul of medals from a variety of IBJJF tournaments including a no gi World Championship and several Pan-Ams gold medals in both gi and no gi. He’s also won a Kasai Grand Prix and all four of his matches on the Fight 2 Win mats so far.
Grippo is being challenged by a phenomenal up-and-coming grappler in Samuel Nagai, a recently promoted black belt who has already won both the Lightweight and Welterweight titles for F2W. Despite only being promoted in August, Nagai has already represented Checkmat at the highest levels at Subversiv 3, a team grappling tournament that saw him go 3-1 as his team picked up third place honours. The Co-Main event features a match between two IBJJF no gi World Champions as Talita Alencar takes on Gabrielle McComb.
The full card will likely end up like every other F2W event and feature dozens of matchups all the way from black belt down to the teen’s colored belts but so far, only two others have been announced. Another meeting between female no gi World Champions will happen as Amanda “Tubby” Alequin meets Patricia Fontes for the very first time. A top-tier leglocker will also make an appearance as Edwin “Junny” Ocasio will take on one of the most well-respected instructors in the US, Marcelo Cohen.
