The full lineup for the absolute grand prix tournament that will take place at BJJ Stars 10 on April 22nd, 2023 has just been announced, and it’s stacked with incredibly talented grapplers from a variety of different weightclasses. The promotion has made a habit of featuring some of the best BJJ competitors on the planet on a regular basis, but they’ve really pulled out all of the stops for their tenth event. It’s a sixteen-man tournament with a grand prize of 200,000 Brazilian Real, but the eventual winner will have to make his way past four other top competitors to take it home.
One of the most surprising names on the roster is Mica Galvao due to his clear size disadvantage as the lightest athlete competing. His father Melqui Galvao actually confirmed that he turned down a guaranteed purse to defend the middleweight title he won at BJJ Stars 8 in a superfight, in order to challenge himself in the absolute grand prix. Another surprising addition is Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu, who many fans might not have been expecting to see for a while after he was recently suspended from IBJJF competition for three years.
They will both have plenty of tough opposition though, particularly from other top competitors in the higher weightclasses like Kaynan Duarte, Victor Hugo, Gutemberg Pereira, and Patrick Gaudio. There are also some teammates who may end up going up against each other, like two Alliance Jiu-Jitsu black belts, Mauricio Oliveira and Fellipe Andrew. They aren’t the only ones either, as Erich Munis and Otavio Nolato are also technically teammates after Guigo Jiu-Jitsu made the recent decision to join forces with Dream Art for major tournaments.
The absolute grand prix at BJJ Stars 10 isn’t just packed with top Brazilian competitors either, as the lineup also includes two competitors from a little further afield. One of Europe’s top grapplers Adam Wardzinski will be making the trip to Brazil, along with the only American Devhonte Johnson. There are a number of wildcards entering the tournament too, top prospects who will be looking to make a name for themselves by taking out some of the more established names in the bracket. These include Pedro Lucas, Uanderson Ferreira, and Guilherme Lambertucci, and all three of these men are more than capable of causing an upset at the event.
Another wildcard, Vinicius Liberati, is actually the only competitor who has had to fight his way onto the lineup to begin with, as he won an eight-man tournament prior to BJJ Stars 10 in order to earn his place. There will also be three superfights at the event with Ingridd Alves facing Amanda Hening, Joao Pedro Rocha taking on Lucas Maquine, and popular musician Ice Blue competing against Wilson Roberto.
The full BJJ Stars 10 event, including all of the grapplers confirmed in the above lineup, will be available to watch live on April 22nd, 2023, on FloGrappling.
