Jed Hue and Mateusz Szczecinski are two fan-favourites who will now be facing off with one another at Polaris 24 on June 3rd, 2023, in a match for the promotion’s welterweight title. It will actually be the second time that these two men have met on the Polaris mats, as they engaged in a tough battle at the original Polaris Squads event in 2020. Neither man was able to gain the upper hand during that match though and it ended in a draw due to the team grappling format, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens now that there will be a definitive winner declared in the match.
Hue is actually moving down in weight too, as the last time he competed for Polaris was at their middleweight grand prix. He made it all the way to the final of the tournament before losing by submission to Roberto Jimenez, and he’s been a successful competitor for the promotion for quite some time before that. Szczecinski on the other hand hasn’t competed for Polaris all that much over the years, but he’s made a name for himself on the professional grappling circuit regardless. He also competed at that same grand prix, although he was knocked out in the opening round by Oliver Taza.
Known for his incredible ankle-lock attacks, he has established himself as one of the top European competitors around and earned an invite to ADCC 2022 as a result. Szczecinski immediately impressed in his debut by submitting Andrew Tackett in the opening round of the 77kg division, even though he wasn’t able to go any further. This superb rematch between Jed Hue and Mateusz Szczecinski will actually serve as the co-main event for Polaris 24, as Ashley Williams will be defending his lightweight title against Ryan Hall in the main event.
The news that Jed Hue and Mateusz Szczecinski were going to compete for the welterweight title at Polaris 24 on June 3rd, 2023 was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
