BJJ Stars have just announced that a preliminary tournament will take place on March 1st, 2023 where eight men will battle it out for a place in the upcoming absolute grand prix at BJJ Stars 10. That event is scheduled for April 22nd and it will feature sixteen of the best BJJ competitors around, all attempting to take home the grand prize of 200,000 Brazilian Real. While fifteen of those athletes will be invited based on their past athletic performances and their standing in the sport, the final place will be given to someone who can prove that they belong at that level.
None of the fifteen athletes competing at BJJ Stars 10 have been announced just yet, but they will be revealed over the coming weeks. The eight men competing in the preliminary tournament however have all been confirmed already, and even that is set to be an exciting night of elite-level grappling. Several major teams are appearing in the qualifying tournament for BJJ Stars 10 including Cicero Costha and Carlson Gracie, who will be represented by Vinicius Liberati and Wildemar Santos respectively.
Representing Rillion Gracie is Agnelo Santos, while Cleyton Rafael is a Team Cruz product. Alongside them is Gabriel Volante of XCoach, Herico Hesley of Kimura, and DBJ Jiu-Jitsu’s Romulo Leandro. The final competitor confirmed for the tournament is Claudio Calasans black belt Vinicius Lessa and while he is probably the most well-known, it’s almost impossible to pick a favourite for the event. Any one of these athletes could emerge victorious on the right day and although the winner will definitely be the underdog in the absolute grand prix at BJJ Stars 10, it’ll be interesting to see how they hold up against the highest level of competition.
