UFC veteran Kay Hansen will be meeting Bre Stikk in a flyweight Combat Jiu-Jitsu superfight at Medusa 5 on December 28th, 2023. Hansen has been a professional MMA fighter 2017 and has registered a number of submission wins in the sport since then, including one in the UFC. She spent four fights competing for the promotion from 2020 to 2022, but was released after going 1-3 and has now rejoined Invicta FC instead. Her opponent Stikk was only recently promoted to 10th Planet black belt, but she has been a force to be reckoned with on the mats for quite some time before that.
Stikk actually has quite a bit of experience on the Medusa mats, and she stormed to victory in a flyweight Combat Jiu-Jitsu tournament back at Medusa 3. She returned to defend her title at their very next event, but the format was a little different as the promotion had decided to expand their brackets to 16 women instead of 8. Stikk went out in the opening round of the tournament at Medusa 4, but that loss only came in EBI overtime after a tough battle in regulation time.
Bre Stikk has significantly more experience under the Combat Jiu-Jitsu ruleset than Kay Hansen does, but MMA fighters are often able to excel when they’re given the ability to strike in grappling matches. This superfight won’t be the only Combat Jiu-Jitsu match that fans will get to see at Medusa 5 either, as the promotion has also announced a bantamweight tournament under the ruleset as well. The full lineup for the tournament hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but Medusa has revealed that their flyweight champion Alex Enriquez will be competing in the bracket.
Medusa announced the news that Kay Hansen and Bre Stikk were competing in a superfight at Medusa 5 in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
