The IBJJF have just announced the return of The Crown in 2024, and the second edition of their incredible tournament will take place in the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California on November 17th, 2024. This is almost exactly a year since the event first made it’s debut, and the inaugural tournament produced a ton of highlight-reel moments. The event featured four men’s divisions and two women’s division, with each of those brackets consisting of four of the best competitors in the world in that weight class. There were some less entertaining matches just like there is at any tournament, but the great moments far outweighed them.
With the biggest names in the sport like Tainan Dalpra, Gabrieli Pessanha, and Fellipe Andrew all competing in their respective weight classes, The Crown was one of the biggest events that any promotion has ever put together. Even before it began, it was clear from the lineup of elite grapplers who would be competing that it was going to be a fantastic event. Although the lineup for the 2024 edition of The Crown has not yet been confirmed, the IBJJF is almost certainly going to attract just as many of the biggest names in the sport as they did the first time around.
Barring any significant injuries or prior commitments, there’s a fairly good chance that the winners of their respective divisions will be returning to defend their titles but outside of that the lineup is unpredictable. There will likely be a few other returning competitors as well, and the IBJJF World Championship later this year will probably throw a few names into the mix too. There will be several gold medalists who will be eager to take home another major title before the year is out, and other big names like Mica Galvao and Nicholas Meregali might make an appearance too.
