Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal have plenty of history together and now the two men are apparently going to cross paths once again, as it’s been reported that a boxing match between the pair is in the works. The news was originally reported by Happy Punch but has since been confirmed by Ariel Helwani, one of the most reputable journalists in combat sports. Although there’s been no official announcement of where or when this rematch might take place, the initial reports that have come out have said that it’s in the works for some point in 2024.
There’s no confirmation on what promotion will be responsible for staging the event either, but there are several possible options and the most likely is some sort of co-promotional effort. Both Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal actually own their own promotions, Real Fight Inc and GameBred Promotions respectively. The spanner in the works is the fact that Masvidal is actually still currently under contract with the UFC as well, so they will almost certainly want a piece of any combat sports match that he takes part in.
Diaz and Masvidal first met in the cage all the way back in 2019 at UFC 244, where they fought for the UFC’s very first symbolic BMF title. That fight was stopped by the doctors in between the third and fourth round, with Masvidal being declared the winner after an incredibly entertaining fight. A rematch between them under boxing rules is certainly an unusual twist, but both of them do have a little bit of experience in the ring. Masvidal took a single boxing match back in 2005 that he won by decision, while Diaz famously lost a decision to Jake Paul in his boxing debut last year.
Ariel Helwani first reported the news that Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal were going to meet in a boxing match in 2024 in a post to his official Instagram account:
