Tammi Musumeci will now be facing off against Bianca Basilio in a submission grappling match at ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24th, 2023. This marks the first time that Musumeci has competed for ONE Championship, and it’s a fantastic match that is almost certain to provide plenty of exciting action for the fans. Basilio on the other hand, she already made her debut back at ONE 163 where she submitted Milena Sakumoto. They will be meeting in the opening match of the event on the preliminary card, and it will be available to watch on YouTube and the official ONE Championship website.
The pair will be competing in the strawweight division for this match, with a weight limit of 125lbs. Both women are known as incredible no gi grapplers and it’s tough to pick a winner in this match, as both of them have won major titles. Basilio won a gold medal in the under 60kg division of ADCC 2019, while Musumeci has won three IBJJF no gi World Championship gold medals during her career. The two women haven’t met in competition before and a clash between them is some truly fantastic matchmaking by the minds behind ONE Championship’s submission grappling division.
Basilio wasn’t able to repeat her performance at ADCC 2022 but outside of that event, she hasn’t lost a single match since 2021. Musumeci on the other hand hasn’t been competing as often and it’ll be interesting to see if she can overcome that time away. She’ll no doubt be eager to get off the mark at ONE Championship so she can start to replicate the success that her brother Mikey has found in the promotion by becoming the reigning flyweight grappling champion. With a win in this match, either woman would be placed firmly at the top of the strawweight division and would likely be the top choice to compete for the inaugural title in the future.
