Mica Galvao and two of his teammates at Melqui Galvao Jiu-Jitsu will now be joining Mo Jassim‘s all-star Team Modolfo at the upcoming AIGA Champions League final in December. As each team can only have ten representatives in total, this means that some of their existing roster will be stepping down in order to accommodate the new arrivals. It’s unclear just who this might be and it’s not too late for even more adjustments to be made, so the roster may change even further before the event takes place. In fact, Gordon Ryan has already voiced his desire to represent Team Modolfo in the final event as well.
Team Modolfo came into their quarter-final group as heavy favorites to win the whole event, but they experienced some unexpected trouble along the way from Universal Fighters. Although they still ended up coming top of their group, they lost one team match to Universal Fighters that allowed them to qualify in second place. They still remain favorites when the final comes around in December, but some changes to their lineup might be just what they need to seal the deal if they meet Universal Fighters again.
Mica Galvao is the biggest name to be added to Team Modolfo for the AIGA Champions League final, but his teammates Kaua Gabriel and Felipe Machado are both fantastic grapplers in their own right. They both put in some great work at the ADCC Sao Paulo Open 2023, where they left with two gold medals and a silver medal between them. It’ll be tough for any of the other teams’ grapplers to beat these three men, but it’ll also be a great opportunity for Gabriel and Machado to make a statement with impressive performances at the event.
Mica Galvao announced the news that he and Kaua Gabriel would be joining Team Modolfo for the AIGA Champions League Final in a recent post to his official Instagram account, and Felipe Machado was later added to the roster as well:
