The ADCC Sao Paulo Open 2023 took place on July 16th, 2023 and the tournament attracted some of the best grapplers from all around Brazil to compete. It was the first ADCC Open booked for Brazil in 2023 and naturally there was plenty of action throughout each division. Each of the men’s divisions in particular featured dozens of competitors in each one and the absolute division was stacked with top talent. It was Henrique ‘Ceconi’ Cardoso who left with the gold medal from the absolute division, shortly after he won the under 100kg division by beating Elioenai Braz in the final.
It was Aurelie Le Vern who achieved the same feat in the women’s divisions, as she won both the under 70kg weight class and the absolute division. There were other big names competing at the event as well though, as Rafael Paganini and Antonio de Padua won the under 83kg and over 100kg divisions respectively. One of the most impressive performances from the day came from a surprising source though, as brown belt Kaua Gabriel established his status as one of Melqui Galvao’s top prospects by winning a gold medal in the under 70kg division and a silver medal in the absolute division. He wasn’t the only young grappler to put in a great performance though, as Alliance Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Romulo Rocha won gold at under 76kg.
