The IBJJF Grand Prix is back again, and this time the promotion is going to put together a no gi Absolute tournament on February 29th, 2024. This will actually be the first time in around five years that they’ve decided to host a no gi absolute division and naturally there’s going to be a lot of top competitors eager to take part in the tournament. Not only will this be a prestigious title to add to anyone’s collection but it also comes with a $40,000 grand prize as well, so the winner will likely have a pretty good financial year as well.
There will be 8 competitors entering the bracket and as always with IBJJF Grand Prix events, there will also be a number of superfights taking place in between rounds of the tournament. There’s no news yet on who will be competing but the IBJJF always pulls out all the stops when booking their grand prix tournaments, regularly attracting some of the best grapplers on the planet. Although it’s incredibly unlikely that Gordon Ryan ends up competing at the event, it’s not hard to picture his teammate Nicholas Meregali or other elite grapplers like Roberto Jimenez and Yuri Simoes taking part.
Regardless of who actually decides to enter the IBJJF Absolute No Gi Grand Prix in 2024, it’s practically guaranteed to be an exciting event. The promotion has put on enough of these events to earn a lot of goodwill now, thanks to the fact that each one has been entertaining from start to finish. With $40,000 on the line for the winner, athletes will fight tooth and nail to win every single exchange in their matches and that kind of prize generally makes for fun matchups as a result.
The IBJJF announced that the Absolute no gi Grand Prix will take place in 2024 in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
