Garry Tonon recently took some time away from professional MMA in order to return to his roots and compete at ADCC 2022, but now the veteran grappler is coming back at ONE Fight Night 6 on January 13th, 2023. This will be his first fight back since he suffered his first loss to Thanh Le in a title fight at ONE: Lights Out. Although Tonon hasn’t been taking MMA fights for the last ten months, he has been staying incredibly busy regardless. He faced Tye Ruotolo at ONE 157 in one of the first few grappling matches that the promotion staged, although he was submitted with a D’arce choke by the young grappler.
That was the last time he competed for ONE Championship prior to his upcoming fight, as he spent the rest of 2022 focusing on ADCC preparation. Tonon dropped down in weight to compete in the 66kg division for the very first time, and he was heading into the event as the top seed in that division. Tonon faced Sam McNally in the opening round and put on an epic battle, but McNally managed to take his back at one point and scored the only points of the match. McNally then won 3-0 and eliminated Tonon from ADCC 2022 in the very first round.
After that, Garry Tonon then resumed his MMA training in anticipation of making a return and was quickly booked to compete at ONE Fight Night 6. He’s been working hard to get back into the win column at this event, even getting some time in training alongside UFC and ONE legend Demetrious Johnson. Tonon isn’t the only phenomenal grappler who will be competing at the event though, as Mikey Musumeci is scheduled to defend his Flyweight Submission Grappling title against Gantamur Bayanduuren as well.
