UFC 300 took place on April 13th, 2024 and the results saw both Bo Nickal and Kayla Harrison win their fights by submission, alongside a number of other fantastic fights. They weren’t the only ones to register impressive wins though and in fact, the first fight of the night ended in submission when Dieveson Figueiredo managed to lock up a rear-naked choke against Cody Garbrandt. There was several more fun fights that included a pair of exciting knockout wins before Kayla Harrison made her UFC debut against Holly Holm. There was a lot of attention surrounding the elite Judoka, as she’s been one of the top female MMA fighters for several years now but has never made the bantamweight limit before.
Harrison completed her weight-cut and all was well, but not many people would have predicted just how dominant she was going to look in the cage. She landed several takedowns and a lot of devastating ground and pound throughout the fight before she eventually submitted Holm with a rear-naked choke in the second round. After another few fights it was time for the main card to start and Bo Nickal was opening it up against Cody Brundage, where he relied heavily on his elite wrestling and controlled the fight almost entirely. He also found the rear-naked choke finish in the second round, after hunting for it for much of the first round as well.
Next up was a UFC lightweight title-eliminator between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, two men who have fantastic grappling and high-level striking to go along with it. Both men had plenty of moments of success throughout the fight and it was one of the closest of UFC 300, with very few people able to predict the results of the judge’s scorecards. The dying seconds of the fight saw Charles Oliveira with a tight choke locked in but Arman Tsarukyan survived to the final bell and ended up winning the split decision. That’s when the title-fights started and they kicked off with a bang, as Max Holloway scored a knockout in the final second of his fight with Justin Gaethje to win the BMF title.
Zhang Weili was the first person to put a weight class title on the line, and she won a convincing decision across almost all five rounds against Yan Xiaonan. There was even a little controversy in the first round when Weili locked up a rear-naked choke and appeared to put Xiaonan to sleep, but the bell rang and she was able to come to her senses enough to convince everyone to allow the fight to continue. Then the main event saw Alex Pereira make the first defense of his light-heavyweight title in impressive fashion, as he knocked out Jamahil Hill in the very first round.
