The Abu Dhabi World Pro Championship has now been postponed for a second time as a direct result of restrictions in place to combat the Coronavirus pandemic. The UAEJJF originally decided to postpone all events indefinitely while the world was in an uncertain time and nobody knew how long it would be before combat sports events would be able to take place. Of course, they were also waiting for gyms themselves to be able to reopen as all around the world, both elite athletes and hobbyists alike were unable to train in large groups.
In August, it was announced that the Abu Dhabi World Pro Championship would take place in November but has sadly now been postponed again at the last minute. The UAEJJF made the announcement on their official social media that the event will now take place between February 23rd to 27th in 2021 instead. Interestingly, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour has already it’s first event take place in Miami and the UAEJJF have only decided to delay the second stop in Moscow so far. The Moscow edition will now take place on February 6th and 7th instead of October, but the UAEJJF’s Brazilian edition is still scheduled for December 5th and 6th.
It’s unfortunate that so many events have had to be postponed or rescheduled as a result of restrictions put in place, but the IBJJF has shown that choosing to go ahead regardless of travel restrictions will be met with just as much complaint as postponing events.
