Daniel Straus is in the news now for all the wrong reasons after allegedly stabbing a woman, around a year and a half after he last competed in the Bellator cage. Straus is a little further removed from his most recent reign as Bellator’s Featherweight World Champion in 2017, a title that he has held on two separate occasions over the years. It’s sad to see someone fall so far from grace after a stellar run that saw him finish with a 26-9 record and a 12-6 promotional record after winning the Bellator season six Featherweight Grand Prix early on in his career.
Straus was arrested on February 6th in Broward County, California and has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon stemming from an incident that took place on January 21st, as originally reported by MMAJunkie. According to the affidavit, he showed up to the alleged victim’s place of work after they had argued over text message about apparent infidelity and he confronted her. The victim went to her vehicle in the parking lot with Straus following behind, and that’s when the girlfriend claims the incident turned violent. According to a statement given to the police by the girlfriend, she alleges that Straus pushed her and she pushed him back in retaliation, and she claims than when she attempted to get into her vehicle to leave, Straus struck her in the left side of her face and knocked her to the ground. She further states that after he struck her, Straus got in his vehicle and left the scene.
The affidavit also states that Straus called her and said he was at her apartment, and because she feared that he would destroy her property, she drove to his apartment where the two continued arguing. It was at this point that Daniel Straus allegedly produced an unknown sharp object that the victim could not identify, stabbing her in the abdomen. The victim fled the scene as quickly as she could and went to a neighbor’s home, from where she was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for her injuries. After the victim spoke to police and decided to press charges, an arrest warrant for Straus was issued and he was later picked up, currently being held on $100,000 bail.
