The First ADCC South American Trials 2024 took place on March 2nd, 2024 and the event saw another 5 men win invites to the next edition of the world championship. There were some predictable winners like former ADCC silver medalist Kennedy Maciel at under 66kg, but there were also some surprises in other divisions as well. One of the biggest surprises in the men’s divisions came at under 88kg, where veteran Charles Negromonte emerged victorious in the most difficult bracket of the event. Luiz Paulo also made a huge statement at under 77kg, where he won gold in another busy division that contained some huge names.
The final two invites then went to Felipe Costa and Inacio Santos, who won gold in the smaller brackets at under and over 99kg respectively. The women’s divisions had no invites available unfortunately, but that didn’t stop some top female grapplers from competing. Brenda Larissa was the obvious favorite at under 55kg and she managed to make good on that promise by winning gold, just like Maria Ruffato did at over 65kg. There was a surprise at under 65kg thanks to a prospect training under Melqui Galvao though, as 18 year-old Ana Quieroz took home the gold medal despite facing some veteran opponents.
