In the decades since the sport was first invented, women in BJJ have come along leaps and bounds and the opportunities available to them have continued to grow. Both the IBJJF and ADCC have introduced women’s divisions in the year’s since they first appeared, and many of the best BJJ competitors on the planet are women. As the sport edges closer toward mainstream recognition, women are able to get even more opportunities to compete than ever before and there are almost as many female competitors as male.
