The IBJJF Los Angeles Open 2024 took place on March 2nd and 3rd, 2024 and there was quite a few exciting matches taking place on the first day in the gi divisions. The light-featherweight division in particular had a fantastic match, and it was actually a rematch from just one week earlier at the IBJJF Sacramento Open 2024. The same two men, Jordan Vaisman and Keven Carrasco, made it all the way to the final to face one another again and this time it was Vaisman who managed to come away with the win and get a little revenge for his loss the week before. There was another great match in the final of the medium-heavyweight bracket too, where Caoi Vinicius managed to beat Horlando Monteiro to win the division.
Eduardo Granzotto stood on top of the featherweight podium after an impressive performance, while the middleweight division was won by Rolando Samson. It was actually Mateus Rodrigues who won the biggest prize of the weekend though, as he took home gold medals from both the heavyweight and absolute divisions. Pablo Lavaselli won a bronze medal in the same absolute bracket, which was very impressive considering he left with a bronze medal from the lightweight division earlier in the day. BJJ legend Wellington ‘Megaton’ Dias even made a surprise appearance in the adult ultra-heavyweight division too, where he won a silver medal.
There weren’t many notable names competing in the men’s no gi divisions of the IBJJF Los Angeles Open 2024, but there was one top competitor in the women’s divisions at least. Margot Ciccarelli won gold in the lightweight division and she added to that later on in the day by winning a gold medal in the absolute division as well. There were plenty of top competitors in the female gi divisions though, as Mariana Rolszt won roosterweight and Larissa Campos won featherweight. Janaina Lebre impressed the most though, as she won gold at lightweight and followed that up with another in the absolute division despite facing much heavier opponents.
