Two-time IBJJF world champion Erich Munis has just announced that he’s signed a huge sponsorship deal with Reebok. While sponsorship is usually among the biggest revenue streams available to BJJ competitors, a major organization like Reebok is incredibly tough to beat. Although Munis hasn’t revealed any of the financial aspects of the deal, it’s pretty safe to assume that this will have a big impact on his life and competitive career. He’s already reached the highest levels of gi competition on numerous occasions of course, and he’ll be looking to repeat his achievements at the 2023 edition of the IBJJF World Championship too.
Munis was promoted to black belt back at the end of 2020 along with his brothers Anderson and Alex, and has quickly established himself as one of the top heavier competitors. In his first attempt at winning an IBJJF world championship he managed to emerge victorious in a tough 100kg division, beating both Felipe Pena and Fellipe Andrew along the way. When he returned the following year he had completed the transition from being a dark horse to being one of the favourites in the division. He won gold at his weight and a silver in the absolute, sharing the final of both brackets with Nicholas Meregali.
The rivalry between him and Meregali seemed incredibly close after this event and the score was 1-1, but Munis has since lost to him once more in the final of the absolute division at the IBJJF Pan Championship earlier this year. Should he emerge victorious in the absolute division at the world championship now though, this will set up an epic fourth match with Meregali with $20,000 on the line. This sponsorship deal with Reebok is actually one of several big moves that Erich Munis has made recently, as he also left his home gym of Dream Art in order to join Fratres Jiu-Jitsu just a few weeks ago.
Erich Munis announced the news that he had signed a sponsorship deal with Reebok in a recent post to his official Instagram account. He made a statement in Portuguese, and the translation can be found below:
“Today I announce my newest sponsor Reebok Brasil! I’m very happy to have a brand of this awesomeness investing and believing in my work. Thank you very much Reebok for this partnership!”
