Earlier this week, all three of the incredibly talented Munis brothers were promoted to black belt after Anderson, Erich, and Alex have all dominated the competition in their run through the colored belts. They all received the promotion on the same day and all courtesy of the coaches at Dream Art in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Isaque Bahiense and Gabriel Figueiro. The brothers will now be set to make waves at the highest levels of competitive BJJ as they’ve never been in much trouble during their rise through the rankings.
In fact, all three brothers have been ranked at the very top of their respective weight-classes at brown belt and the largest of the three, Erich Munis, was ranked at the very top of the pound-for-pound brown belt rankings too. It was back at the IBJJF World Championships in 2019 that Erich and Anderson both won their weight-classes and ended up meeting each other in the final of the absolute division, closing out the bracket. Erich then repeated this feat at the IBJJF European Open 2020 by winning gold in his weight-class and the absolute division at brown belt.
Erich Munis has already faced a number of high-level competitors and his first match after being awarded his black belt will be against the reigning IBJJF no gi Absolute World Champion Victor Hugo at BJJ Stars 4. Sadly, the brothers will miss their first opportunity to compete at the highest levels of IBJJF competition as the 2020 Pan-Ams are taking place in the US at a time when travel is heavily restricted, something many Brazilian athletes are unhappy with.
The triple-promotion for the Munis brothers was announced on the official Dream Art Instagram account:
