Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is one of the most exciting fighters in the history of MMA and has long been beloved by fans and matchmakers alike, but now he has announced his retirement immediately after his fight at UFC 276. Cerrone fought against Jim Miller in a rematch of a fight he won all the way back in 2014, but he wasn’t able to turn back the clock and ended up being submitted by Miller early in the second round. He was caught with a headkick and slipped, only for Miller to pounce at the opportunity to lock up a guillotine choke and force the tap. It came as a shock to fans around the world, because Cerrone is usually on the other end of opportunistic submissions and is known for his elite-level Jiu-Jitsu skills.

He then left both his gloves and his cowboy hat in the octagon after the fight, announcing that he intends to retire from professional MMA after an incredible career spanning over sixteen years and fifty-five fights. He also shared the record for most UFC wins with Miller prior to the fight, now holding second place to him after the result. Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone wasn’t the only fighter to announce the end to their professional MMA career at UFC 276 though, as Jessica Eye also announced her retirement after losing to Maycee Barber earlier in the night.
