Nicky Rodriguez and Victor Hugo are two of the best grapplers in the heavyweight division, and now they’re going to meet in the main event of Who’s Number One 22 on February 9th, 2024. The promotion’s heavyweight title won’t be on the line in the match because it is currently being held by Gordon Ryan, but this could very easily serve as a number 1 contender match. Despite the fact that there’s no belt available in the main event match, there are still several other divisions that might have a new champion when the event is over.
In fact there are actually three title-fights throughout the main card, starting with Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira’s quest to become a two-division champion by dethroning lightweight king Dante Leon. That is a huge match in it’s own right and could easily serve as the main event of a fight card as stacked as this, but it’s not the only big match that’s been booked. Immediately after that ends, Ffion Davies will be taking to the mats to defend her flyweight title against Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin.
The final title-fight of the night will actually be the champion’s last defense too, as Mica Galvao has announced that he will be moving up to middleweight in 2024. He will remain a welterweight for the time being though, and he is putting his title on the line one more time before he moves up. The man challenging Galvao will be Kenta Iwamoto, who stepped in to replace Nicky Ryan at the last minute. These three title-fights will all serve as a fantastic build-up to the main event match between Rodriguez and Hugo, an incredibly exciting battle in it’s own right.
