Dante Leon will be defending his lightweight title against Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira at Who’s Number One 22 on February 9th, 2024 in a champion vs champion match. The promotion has put together a fantastic lineup for the event already, but they’re still in the process of announcing the full card. Mica Galvao will also be defending his welterweight title against Kenta Iwamoto, and that isn’t even the only other title-fight that’s taking place. One of the promotion’s female titles will also be on the line, as Amanda ‘Tubby’ Alequin challenges Ffion Davies for the flyweight title.
There will be a number of other matches on the card as well of course, the biggest one announced so far being Tainan Dalpra’s second no gi match against Oliver Taza. Even though there are some incredibly talented grapplers all throughout the card, a lot of attention will likely be on this match between Dante Leon and Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira. That’s because Oliveira is actually the promotion’s reigning featherweight champion after defeating Diogo Reis at Who’s Number One 21.
He will be moving up in weight to challenge Leon for the lightweight title, a belt that was vacant before Leon submitted Ethan Crelinsten to claim it at Who’s Number One 19. Not only is it a huge opportunity for Oliveira, as he will become a two-division champion for the promotion, but it’s also a big match for Leon as well. Leon won ‘Male No Gi Grappler of the Year’ at the JitsMagazine BJJ Awards in 2023 and Oliveira was actually one of the other four nominees. A win over Oliveira would be a fantastic way for Leon to start the year and could be a sign that he might be able to win that award again in 2024.
