UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 is scheduled to take place on May 15th, 2024 and the promotion has announced that the main event for the night will be between Nicky Rodriguez and Mason Fowler. Not only is this a huge match between two of the best competitors in the sport, but it’s also a big match for the promotion themselves as well. The UFC Fight Pass Invitational has been a great addition to the world of professional grappling and it’s gone through multiple different incarnations since it was first created. What started out as a team grappling promotion turned into an absolute grand prix and has more recently become a fight card of superfights.
Their first ever absolute grand prix tournament was back at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 3, and it was actually Mason Fowler who emerged victorious in an incredibly tough bracket. He won his first two matches by submission before beating Luke Griffith in the final by ride-time in EBI overtime, and he became the promotion’s first absolute champion. Nicky Rodriguez wasn’t present in the bracket though because he was already booked to compete in a superfight against Gordon Ryan in the main event; one that he lost by the narrowest of margins.
Nicky Rodriguez returned to compete in the only other absolute grand prix that the promotion has staged so far back at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 4, but sadly Mason Fowler did not return this time. He won his first match by ride-time in EBI overtime before getting a pair of wins by submission in EBI overtime and securing the second title. That means that the main event of the UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 will actually be a battle between the only two absolute champions they’ve ever crowned and the winner will secure bragging rights as the king of the promotion’s absolute division.
UFC Fight Pass announced that the main event of UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 would be Nicky Rodriguez vs Mason Fowler in a recent post to their official Instagram account:
