BJJ Woodstock is a new festival brought to you by he guys at Sub Spectrum and promises “3 days of peace and Jiu-Jitsu”. The event is scheduled to begin on August 21st in Des Moines, Iowa and will feature a 185lbs tournament bracket of four highly talented grapplers as the highlight of the weekend. Alongside this, the festival will also provide a “BJJ Woodstock Open” which will be a gi and no gi, round-robin formatted tournament for the competitors in attendance. The final day will then be one full of learning as the festival will feature seven hours of seminars, classes and demonstrations on a wide range of topics. From grappling arts like Wrestling, Judo, and BJJ, all the way to Meditation, Yoga, and Hypnotism.
The 185lbs championship bracket has just been completed as Andrew Wiltse joins the three men who were already announced. Wiltse has had phenomenal success as a young colored belt, racking up 5 IBJJF World Championships on his way through the ranks and proving his elite status recently by taking big wins over John Combs and Isaiah Wright. He will face an even younger phenom in William Tackett, one of the next big things of American Jiu-Jitsu who has already won some big superfights and an ADCC trials silver medal despite being only 19 years-old.
Aaron Harris will also be competing as the brown belt with a stellar Absolute division record will be taking on men his own size for a change. He should be well known to any fans of Sub Spectrum and has also competed alongside Tackett at Kasai Pro 6. The final entrant is probably the most well-established in the competitive BJJ scene, Pierre-Olivier Leclerc. A purple belt under Firas Zahabi and one of the BJJ coaches at Tristar Gym, Leclerc is no stranger to the competitive scene after giving a good account of himself at Kasai Pro 2 where he had a hard-fought draw with Richie Martinez. Leclerc is also an EBI Trials semi-finalist who will be competing at Submission Underground 17 only a week after this tournament.
