Mikey Musumeci moving up in two weight classes has helped him shoot up the pound for pound rankings as well, and he now sits in 9th place. There’s also some newcomers here as Victor Hugo, Kennedy Maciel, and Andrew Tackett slip into the bottom three positions in that order due to losses suffered by other competitors.
Jits Magazine Men’s Gi BJJ Rankings
Bantamweight – Under 137lbs
The IBJJF World Championship 2024 caused absolute chaos at bantamweight, starting with the most unexpected result of the entire tournament, Andrew Soares breaks into the rankings at number seven with some huge wins and a bronze medal. He only lost to Zayed Alkatheeri, who takes up the 5th spot, while Carlos ‘Bebeto’ Oliveiro beat Alkatheeri to the gold medal and reaches the top of the rankings as a result. The movement didn’t stop there though, as Matheus Azancot did enough to debut at 15th and Rodnei Barbosa put together a few good wins in order to make it into the bottom of the top ten. The dust only settled at bantamweight for about a week too, as the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Istanbul saw Pablo Dutra and Jefferson Fagundes both break into the rankings at 8th and 9th respectively.
Featherweight – Under 154lbs
Lightweight – Under 169lbs
Daniel Sathler makes it into the rankings at 8th and Pedro Maia moves ahead of him into 4th after taking a bronze medal at the IBJJF World Championship 2024. The other bronze medalist was Luiz Paulo, and he moves up to the number five spot. The eventual champion is the real story of course, and Jackson Nagai has shot up the rankings from 13th all the way up to 3rd.
Middleweight – Under 194lbs
Light-Heavyweight – Under 208lbs
Light-Heavyweight was another chaotic division in the July 2024 update to the Jits Magazine BJJ Rankings, largely due to Paulo Merlin getting a big win in the early rounds of the IBJJF World Championship and leaving with a bronze medal. Merlin moves in to 5th place while the man who beat him, Vinicius Liberati, advances to number three at this weight. Adam Wardzinski won the title and he slides in to the top spot as a result. The only other effects on the rankings from Worlds was that Jose Jurema managed to take the bottom spot of the top ten and Rider Zuchi moved up just behind him to 11th. Marcos Carrozzino then broke into the rankings at number fifteen thanks to a good performance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Istanbul shortly after.
Heavyweight – Under 225lbs
Marcelo Gomide had to battle through a tough bracket to win the bronze medal at the IBJJF World Championship 2024 and he takes up his place at number four. Harryson Pereira advanced just a two spaces to 5th with his bronze medal, while the eventual champion Anderson Munis moved straight into the top spot.
Super-Heavyweight – Over 225lbs
Yatan Bueno wins the IBJJF World Championship at this weight and moves into the 3rd spot, while the silver medalist Pedro Alex comes in at 5th. Guilherme Augusto was one of the bronze medalists and he has advanced to 8th, while the other bronze medalist is the newcomer Seif-Eddine Houmine at 10th. The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Istanbul threw one final change into the super-heavyweight division, as Matheus Zavier beat Felipe Bezerra and managed to break into the rankings at number nine.

Plenty of changes have happened to the pound for pound rankings, starting with Mica Galvao taking the top spot. Meyram Maquine has also shot up all the way to 4th place after an incredible performance in the absolute division at the IBJJF World Championship 2024, while Adam Wardzinski and Fellipe Andrew have moved up to 5th and 6th respectively. Diego ‘Pato’ Oliveira has gained a few places into 9th and there’s even a few newcomers around him too. Anderson Munis makes his debut 7th, Carlos ‘Bebeto’ Oliveira makes his at 10th, Jackson Nagai at 12th, while Gustavo Batista and Yatan Bueno round out the pound for pound rankings at 14th and 15th respectively.
Jits Magazine Women’s No Gi BJJ Rankings
Strawweight – Under 115lbs
Bre Stikk shot up to 5th place after beating Dorothy Dao to a place on the USA Team for the upcoming world grappling championship. Although Stikk is the only newcomer at strawweight, she’s not the only gaining a few places as Amber Rymarz-Freitas beat Mariana Rolszt at the IBJJF No Gi American National Championship and she slots in just behind her at 7th.
Featherweight – Under 125lbs
Lightweight – Under 135lbs
Only one small move at lightweight, as Margot Ciccarelli beat Joanna Trindade at the IBJJF No Gi American National Championship and takes her place at 13th.

Another single change as Jaine Fragoso enters the rankings at number ten with a win over Deise Leonanjo.
Heavyweight – Over 146lbs
Heavyweight is another division with just a small change in the July 2024 update of the Jits Magazine BJJ Rankings, as Roberta Ribeiro beats Mikaela Barros and they swap places at 13th and 14th.
Pound for Pound
The only change here is due to the shift at the top of the featherweight division, as Adele Fornarino breaks into the top 5 of the pound for pound rankings.
Jits Magazine Women’s Gi BJJ Rankings
Strawweight – Under 118lbs
Jhenifer Aquino left the IBJJF World Championship with a silver medal and her wins along the way have earned her the number five spot in the rankings. Mariana Rolszt makes her first appearance in the Jits Magazine BJJ Rankings at strawweight, entering at number eleven ready for 2024. Amanda Monteiro had an incredible run that saw her finish in 3rd after beating several big names, but it was Thamires Aquino who beat her in the final to earn second place in the rankings. The final newcomer in this division is Emily Nicholson, who won bronze and has entered the rankings at 9th.
Featherweight – Under 129lbs
Lightweight – Under 141lbs
Luiza Monteiro moves into the top spot after winning the IBJJF World Championship at lightweight and Ffion Davies being removed due to absence. the silver medalist, Brianna Ste-Marie, put together several good wins that saw her move up to 3rd. The bronze medalist with the toughest run through the bracket was Stephanie Faure and she moves upto 4th while Jaine Fragoso takes 5th as the other woman on the podium. Middleweight – Under 163lbs
Thamara Ferreira won gold at the IBJJF World Championship 2024 and she takes the 2nd spot in the rankings, whereas Larissa Martins takes 5th and Maria Vicentini takes 6th after both earning silver medals. They weren’t the only impressive performances though, bronze medalist Salla Simola also broke into the rankings at a respectable 9th and Rebeca Lima came in at 14th. Lunna Tallen Vieira finished off the month strong with good results at the IBJJF American National Championship that allowed her to come in at 15th.
Heavyweight – Over 163lbs
Amanda Magda came out of the IBJJF World Championship 2024 with a big win and is now ranked 4th at heavyweight, although Tamiris Silva beat her in turn and takes up the final place of the top three. The only other change is the arrival of Maryanna Cardoso in the 11th spot in the rankings and Mayara Custodio moving into 10th, after they both won bronze medals.
Pound for Pound
The pound for pound rankings here were shaken up by inactivity, as two top-ranked competitors were ineligible. This meant that several women moved up a place, but Nathalie Ribeiro shot up to 4th with Luiza Monteiro and Thamara Ferreira right behind her in 5th and 6th respectively. Then the bottom third is almost completely different as Margot Ciccarelli, Brianna Ste-Marie, Thamires Aquino, Tamiris Silva, and Larissa Campos have all joined from 10th to 14th in that order.
