The official ADCC website has been quietly updated to confirm two different Gordon Ryan superfights for ADCC 2024, as he will now apparently be facing both Yuri Simoes and Felipe Pena. Although the promotion has not yet announced anything publicly on social media, their website lists all of the competitors currently confirmed for the tournament brackets and now also includes details on both of the above superfights. There’s no news on whether these two matches will both take place at the end of the event, as is customary for ADCC superfights, or whether they will be split to headline both days of the event.
It would be a completely unprecedented move by both ADCC and Gordon Ryan, as no other grappler has ever accepted two superfights at a single event prior to ADCC 2024. The superfight against Yuri Simoes is the one that fans always knew was going to happen, as it followed in line with the tradition of the ADCC Superfight Championship. Ryan beat Andre Galvao to claim the title at ADCC 2022, becoming the first new champion since Galvao won the title in 2013. At the very same event, Simoes won the right to become his next challenger when he beat 4 elite grapplers to win the absolute division.
This would also continue a trend for Ryan, as he has been pushing the boundaries of accomplishments in the sport for quite some time now. In 2022 he became the first person to win a weight class as well as the superfight, and it also meant that he became the first person to win three regular weight classes as well. Now it seems as though he’s intent on making history again, as he will apparently be putting his superfight title on the line twice in one event. He has history with both Simoes and Pena as well, holding a 4-0 record against Simoes and a 1-2 record in his epic rivalry with Pena.
