The young star William Tackett has just been announced as the latest addition to the lineup for the Third Coast Grappling 6 Grand Prix where he will compete for a piece of the $20,000 prize money. He will be a part of this historic event, which marks the first time that the promotion will be separating from FloGrappling to stream the event on a PPV basis, available for purchase on FITE TV instead. Third Coast Grappling has split the total prize money of $20,000 for the event, with the winner receiving $15,000 and the losing finalist receiving the remaining $5,000.
William Tackett has actually already won a grand prix tournament for Third Coast Grappling, when he won their qualifiers event as a young purple belt. This is what booked his place in this tournament alongside some of the best grapplers on the planet right now. The first competitor announced for the tournament was none other than the most dangerous colored belt coming from the Danaher Death Squad, Nicky Rodriguez. He was joined very shortly by a multiple-time IBJJF World Champion and reigning ADCC World Champion from ATOS, Kaynan Duarte, who may now be the current favorite to take home the gold here too.
While Tackett will be seriously undersized against the two monster competitors that have already been announced, this wouldn’t be the first time that he’s managed to overcome the odds. He regularly defeats more experienced competitors, like his recent victory over ADCC veteran John Combs at F2W 160.
