Who’s Number One 28 is scheduled for June 13th, 2025 and there’s an excellent card full of fun matches to preview. There’s a great mix of exciting young talent on the preliminary card and BJJ legends on the main card, all leading up to two title-fights at the end of the night. The co-main event will see Felipe Pena and Luke Griffith battling it out for the vacant heavyweight title, meaning that the division is guaranteed a new champion for the first time in three years. Then the main event of the evening goes down, where Mica Galvao will attempt to become a two-weight WNO champion as he takes on Jonnatas Gracie at middleweight.
Who’s Number One 28 Full Card Preview
Mica Galvao vs Jonnatas Gracie – Middleweight Championship
Both men in the main event are WNO champions, with Mica Galvao holding the welterweight title and Jonnatas Gracie winning his own at middleweight a little more recently. Although Galvao is technically moving up a weight class, Gracie isn’t really any bigger than him and they both actually competed at under 77kg at ADCC 2024. They also competed together in the BJJ Stars 15 grand prix, and Galvao won both of those tournaments. He also already holds a submission win over Gracie dating back to a gi match in 2022, so he’s definitely the favorite in the main event.
Felipe Pena vs Luke Griffith – Heavyweight Championship
The heavyweight division is in need of a new champion after Gordon Ryan has vacated the title, and it’s going to be Felipe Pena or Luke Griffith. This is actually a rematch from a little under a year ago, as Pena submitted Griffith in the final of the over 99kg division at ADCC 2024. He was in trouble early on in the match with Griffith on his back though, so it clearly could have gone very differently on another day. It’s tough to predict who will come out on top here but Pena does have the advantage in experience and it was enough to see him through last time, so it might be enough again.
Declan Moody vs Fellipe Andrew
Fellipe Andrew is one of the best gi grapplers in the world and he’s won many IBJJF majors over the last few years, but he’s equally talented in no gi when he decides to compete in it. He had a great run at the inaugural Craig Jones Invitational where he made it all the way to the final, demonstrating that he can compete with the very best in no gi today. Declan Moody is one of the best grapplers to come out of Australia lately and he’ll probably have both a size advantage and wrestling advantage over Andrew, but Andrew is still the favorite regardless.
Kyle Chambers vs Victor Silverio
Kyle Chambers is one of the most consistent 10th Planet competitors and he’s known for putting on a high pace while remaining unpredictable. He has excellent leglocks too and he’s given some of the best grapplers in the world very tough matches over the years. Victor Silverio might be a little more well-rounded but where Chambers is strongest, he will be a real threat. The most likely outcome here is that Chambers either gets the submission win or manages to put Silverio in enough danger to win a decision.
Paige Ivette vs Kauane Ramos
Paige Ivette faced a massive challenge at Who’s Number One 26 but she went toe-to-toe with one of the best female grapplers in the world and put on a highly entertaining match. She deserves another chance to bounce back and proved that she could be a tough opponent for anyone, but Kauane Ramos is no easy opponent either. Ramos made waves in no gi competition while she was still a brown belt and beat several women who have gone on to become top competitors. Ramos should be the slight favorite to win if it goes to decision due the clash of styles, but Ivette has a great guard and it’ll be tough to shut her attacks down consistently.
Xande Ribeiro vs Kit Dale
Both of these men are legends of the sport in their own right, but Xande Ribeiro was undeniably the more successful competitor. He won ADCC twice over and multiple IBJJF world titles during his prime, and he’s even stayed active at the highest level in his later years. Kit Dale was one of the earliest major successes to come out of Australia and he’s an excellent guard-passer, but Ribeiro has the world’s most unpassable guard. Ribeiro should be able to win this, but Dale has put on some excellent performances lately and could surprise people with how well he does.
Preliminary Card
Rana Willink vs Alyssa Luna
Rana Willink is widely-known as the daughter of Jocko Willink but make no mistake about it, she’s a seriously talented grappler. She’s already impressed in several key performances on major shows and this is her biggest opportunity to date, as a win at the top of the preliminary card should earn her a main card match next time around. She’s up against 10th Planet purple belt Alyssa Luna and although Luna is a tough competitor in her own right, Willink is the favorite here.
Icaro Moreno vs Makenzen Wong
Icaro Moreno is generally thought to be one of the next big stars of the sport and the young Art of Jiu-Jitsu product couldn’t ask for better guidance as he walks that path. His style is clearly heavily-influenced by his coaches and he displays the best that AOJ game has to offer at a very young age. Makenzen Wong will be very tough to beat though, as the young grappler has success in both Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. Moreno might be the favorite, but Wong should have his fair share of success in the match and might even be able to pull off the upset.
Victor Rodrigues vs Pablo Rosales
Victor Rodrigues is a Checkmat blue belt who has been delivering great results all around the world this year, with his crowning achievement being an IBJJF World Championship title at that level just a week ago. His opponent, Pablo Rosales, is in a similar position as one of the top blue belt teenagers in the world right now and he’s training under a coach renowned for his success with youngsters; Melqui Galvao. This one is tough to call but both of them are going to put on a show, and we’re leaning towards Rodrigues as the slight favorite.
Ari Goldman vs Saul Viayra
This is the only match of the preliminary card that features black belt competitors, so the expectation is high for this one. Ari Goldman has beautiful Jiu-Jitsu and he will be able to keep up a great pace throughout the match. Gracie Barra black belt Saul Viayra has been putting in great work on the ADCC Open circuit lately and he’s got great leglocks, so it’ll be interesting to see how he and Goldman match up stylistically. Viayra is probably going to be the favorite, but Goldman has the ability to win if he can get the better of a few key exchanges.
Carson Quinene vs Ryan Juliano
Carson Quinene is a talented purple belt and he’s even medalled at blue belt IBJJF no gi majors in the past, proving he can hang with the very best at this level. Ryan Juliano on the other hand is an excellent wrestler who has found further success since transitioning ti Jiu-Jitsu. Both men will probably be familiar to some fans of the sport from their respective popular YouTube channels, but they’re both solid grapplers. Juliano should be able to win any exchanges on the feet and although they’ll be much more evenly-matched on the ground, he should still be able to get the win.
