A regional MMA fighter recently managed to submit himself while attempting to leglock his opponent at FMS Fight Night 2 on October 29th, 2023. Luiz Claudio was facing off against Yabna N’Tchalla in a lightweight fight on the main card of the event and for all intents and purposes, this appeared to be a completely normal fight. Claudio had been fighting professional since 2016 and held a 4-2-1 record coming into the fight, while N’Tchalla is significantly newer to the sport. He only made his professional debut in 2021 but was coming into the fight with an impressive 9-1 record and was looking to bounce back after suffering the first loss of his career.
Nobody could have predicted what was going to happen when these two men got into the cage with one another though, as fans got to see one of the most unusual finishes in MMA history. Both men employed some wild striking for a few seconds before Claudio shot in for a takedown and drove N’Tchalla to the fence. He tried to finish the single-leg but he fell to the ground on his back and started scrambling to attack N’Tchalla’s legs instead.
Claudio tried to enter backside 50/50 but N’Tchalla defended well and he ended up in regular 50/50 instead. N’Tchalla started working up to his feet and Claudio inverted to attack the free leg as he did so, sitting him back down and taking a toehold grip on that leg. The only problem was that Claudio’s legs remained stuck around the original leg and had now become twisted in an incredibly awkward fashion. When he Claudio realized he had put himself in danger he released the toehold but it was too late, and he was forced to submit as a result of his own leglock attempt gone wrong.
