Vagner Rocha has been competing at the very highest levels of professional grappling for a long time and according to him, he’s recently made the decision to use TRT in accordance with recommendations with a doctor. Rocha is still an active competitor, but he is definitely at the tail-end of his career at the age of 41. His most recent appearance at a major tournament was in the 88kg division of ADCC 2022, where he came away with a bronze medal and what appeared to be a significant injury.
Although Rocha’s career as a competitor may not carry on for much longer, his career as a coach is only just beginning. Rocha has two children who are steadily making a name for themselves in the world of professional grappling, and both of them have become fearsome competitors in their respective weightclasses despite their youth. Achilles Rocha is still very young, but has been giving elite grapplers a hard time for a while now and will definitely be one to watch for the future. Meanwhile, Jasmine Rocha has already established herself as one of the top female competitors on the planet and will only get better as she matures.
That’s why it’s refreshing to hear Rocha’s stance on TRT and PEDs, because he has a pretty large influence on the next generation of elite competitors. He was open about his own use of TRT as he has gotten older, but is still firmly against using any PEDs while athletes are young and it’s not medically necessary. He applauded athletes who do stay clean throughout their career, and simultaneously encouraged them to get their hormone levels checked for their own health. Vagner Rocha isn’t the only older athlete to have opened up about using TRT in recent years either, as Tom DeBlass also spoke out on the topic and shared a similar sentiment to Rocha.
Vagner Rocha opened up about using TRT and explained the reasons why in a recent post to his official Instagram account:
