Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu and Achilles Rocha represent two opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu, and the rolling between them is definitely interesting to watch. Cyborg is into his 40s and still competing at the highest levels of the sport, even after winning six IBJJF world championships and an ADCC gold medal. Rocha on the other hand is just sixteen years old and has yet to break through to the top level of the sport, although he is definitely one of the most promising prospects to emerge in recent years. He is best known for some exciting performances on the youth circuit, and for unfortunately being assaulted by an adult black belt at ADCC trials in 2021.
This is far from the first time that footage has emerged of the next generation of elite competitors training alongside the veterans who came before them of course, but it is one of the most entertaining. Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu and Achilles Rocha are not just at different stages in their career though, what makes this footage more uique is the fact that they’re also at extreme ends of the weight spectrum as well. Cyborg has spent his entire career among the two heaviest weightclasses in the sport, while Rocha is among the lightest competitors around when he competes against adults.
Cyborg has been known as one of the most athletic and technical heavier competitors for years now, and it’s interesting to see how well he moves even compared to someone significantly smaller than him. This is just training though of course, so neither of them are going at their full strength of course. The pair have also known each other for an incredibly long time already because Achilles is the son of Vagner Rocha, a frequent training partner of Cyborg.
