Who’s Number One will be breaking new ground at their next standard event as they will be featuring not one, but two female title fights right at the top of the card. The event will take place after the upcoming Who’s Number One Championships which will see three male and two female divisions of eight elite grapplers competing for a grand prize. Polaris champion Ffion Davies will be up first in the co-main event where she takes on Nathalie Ribeiro for the promotion’s 135lbs title.
Davies is potentially the best grappler to ever come out of the UK as she currently stands as the only British competitor to earn an ADCC medal and win the IBJJF no gi world championships, and the only European to win the Brazilian Nationals. All of this has happened within her first few years as a black belt and she’s still an incredibly young competitor with plenty of time left to improve. She will have her hands full with Ribeiro however as she’s been on an absolute tear lately, including taking home gold at the IBJJF no gi pan-ams.
The main event will then see Beatriz ‘Bia’ Mesquita and Luiza Monteiro compete for the Who’s Number One 125lbs title in what will be sure to be an exciting match. Mesquita is an ADCC world champion with one of the biggest medal-hauls in the sport and a wealth of experience at the highest levels, but Monteiro will not go down without a fight. While she narrowly missed out on glory at Third Coast Grappling Kumite 7, Monteiro will be eager to take advantage of this opportunity to add to her collection of five IBJJF world championship gold medals.
