The IBJJF Camboriu Open 2023 took place across the weekend of November 25th and 26th, 2023 and some of the best grapplers in Brazil could be seen in action. Gi competitors stepped up to face one another on the first day, and it was Pedro Lucas who managed to emerge victorious in the absolute division. This was shortly after Lucas won the ultra-heavyweight division as well, making him the only person to leave with two hard-earned gold medals in the black belt divisions. Harryson Pereira weighed in just a little bit lighter, and he was able to stand on top of the podium at super-heavyweight.
Lucas Alves was the man who won the heavyweight division in the gi, although both him and Pereira chose not to return on the second day to compete in the no gi brackets. Pedro Lucas did take to the mats on the second day, although he had to settle for a silver medal in the absolute division this time around. It was Antonio de Padua who became the only person to beat him over the course of the weekend, with both men reaching the final of a tough bracket. That wasn’t the only podium that de Padua stood on top of either, as he had already won the ultra-heavyweight division by that time.
There wasn’t a huge number of female competitors at the IBJJF Camboriu Open 2023, but there was some action in the gi divisions. There were no matches taking place in the regular weight classes, but three women did come together to battle for the absolute title. Barbara Souza was the lightest of the women competing in the absolute division but in the end, she was the one who walked away with the gold medal. There weren’t any matches made for women in no gi, so Roberta Ribeiro left with default gold medals from the super-heavyweight and the absolute divisions
