The IBJJF Floripa Fall Open 2024 took place on May 18th and 19th, 2024 and there was plenty of entertaining matches in both the gi and no gi adult black belt divisions. The biggest names were competing on the first day of the tournament in the gi, with quite a few top-ranked grapplers leaving with gold medals. Manoel Junior put on perhaps the most impressive performance of the entire weekend, as he started out by winning his first gold medal in the medium-heavyweight division and beat Servio Tulio in the final in order to do so. He returned later on in the day and beat multiple bigger opponents on his way to winning a second gold medal in the absolute division.
Amanda Magda also walked away with two gold medals on the first day, although she won her weight class by default before getting a hard-earned win in the absolute division. There weren’t all that many high-level female competitors stepping on the mats at the IBJJF Floripa Fall Open 2024 unfortunately, as no black belt weight class had more than a single match. The women made up for it in the no gi divisions on the second day though, and Juliana Teixeira won both the middleweight and absolute brackets to join Magda as a double champion.
There were a few more big names taking home gold medals in the men’s gi divisions too, with Yuri Hendrex storming to victory in the light-featherweight division. Jefferson Fagundes entered the featherweight division too, and he stood on top of the podium despite facing some really tough opposition along the way. Rider Zuchi also made an impact with his appearance, as he managed to leave with a gold medal at heavyweight after some good performances. It was a great weekend of high-level grappling with fun matches and slick submission finishes across almost every weight class.
