Tammi Musumeci is busy getting ready for her upcoming ONE Championship debut on March 24th, 2023 where she will face off against Bianca Basilio. It’s a fantastic matchup between two top female competitors and it’ll be sure to produce some exciting moments for the fans. Musumeci recently spoke to an interviewer at ONE Championship and explained why she’s looking forward to making her debut for the promotion:
“I’m better with submission-only rules because I feel like I’m always going for the sub. I do like it because I feel like there’s more room to work, and I can be a little bit more aggressive and not worry about advantages and different things like that. I’m just going out there and try to hit cool subs. I like to live my life a certain way. I don’t have Instagram or social media. I’m not doing it for titles or anything, I’m just trying to hit cool stuff.”
It isn’t just the ONE Championship ruleset that is appealing to Tammi Musumeci though, as she’s also excited to face an opponent like Bianca Basilio too:
“She’s one of the best out there, at that weight, or even, I wouldn’t say at the weight, I’d say of all the smaller girls, any of those weights, she’s one of the top girls. So I think it’s an honor to fight her. lt’s cool. I have no expectations for this.”
“I like her attitude. Maybe because I’m getting older, but no matter if she wins or loses, she always looks like she’s having fun out there, and she appreciates being there. I respect her for that as well. It’s one thing to win at what she does and to be good, but I respect her attitude. I’ve seen her win and lose, and she always seems the same no matter what. She’s not one of these people that if they lose, they have an attitude. She seems just thankful to be there, which I feel the same way. I do respect her for that as well.”
Musumeci will be preparing for her upcoming match with Basilio in much the same way she’s prepared for every match she’s ever had. She’ll be training alongside her brother Mikey Musumeci of course, and she also took the time to explain what it’s like training together:
“We’ve always been partners. We’re still training partners. We’d train at different gyms, but we’ve always trained with each other on the side as well by ourselves, which I felt helped me a ton because he’d work with me even when he was a blue belt or a kid. He’d always show me what he was working on, so we’ve always worked together, and I feel like that’s what made us pretty successful, because we were consistently training partners.”
“I always tell him, ‘You created a black belt World Champion!’ You have all these coaches out there, and nobody really sees him as a coach, but he helped me and got me to where I am today.”
