Phenomenal BJJ black belt and fierce MMA fighter Roberto Satoshi de Souza is looking to get back in the win column at RIZIN 42 on May 6th, 2023 when he faces off against Spike Carlyle. Satoshi has been a big figure for RIZIN FF over recent years and is one of the most popular fighters on the promotion’s roster. He’s not just popular for no reason though, as Satoshi has been dominant in the majority of his fights and became the promotion’s very first lightweight world champion back in 2021.

Satoshi made his promotional debut back in 2019 after putting together a 7-0 professional record on the regional circuit and had already reached the podium of the IBJJF world championships on two separate occasions. He had already established by then that he had some of the best Jiu-Jitsu skills in the MMA world and if his career had gone a little differently, he could very easily have become an ADCC world champion. Instead, he chose to pursue an MMA career and finished every single one of his opponents prior to his RIZIN FF debut

From there, Satoshi put together a 4-1 run in the promotion to earn the opportunity to fight for the inaugural title. He won the belt by submitting Tofiq Musayev and made two successful title-defences that included avenging the only loss of his career against Johnny Case. He then engaged in a cross-promotional superfight against former Bellator featherweight world champion AJ Mckee, although he lost that by unanimous decision. That brings him to RIZIN 42, where Roberto Satoshi de Souza will be eager to get back in the win column and maintain his perfect record of finishing every opponent he’s beaten.

The news that Roberto Satoshi de Souza was fighting Spike Carlyle at RIZIN 42 on May 6th was announced in a post to the promotion’s official Instagram account:
